Slot Racing cars, are divided into different categories in the AKK official rules book (AKK Motorsport is a Finnish National Federation). A rough division can be made into scale cars and wingcars. What they all have in common is that they have a car with a DC motor with a nominal voltage of 12 volts.
Cars are steered on the track with a separate so-called "handle". The aim is simply to race as many laps as possible in a given time and the one with the most laps is the winner.
Wingcars can be considered the royal class of the classes (G7). The maximum speed on the main line exceeds up to 160 km/h and the acceleration from 0-100 km/h is about 0.3 seconds. By comparison, the fastest dragster in the Top-Fuel class accelerates from 0-100 km/h in about 0.4 seconds. Slot Racing is thus the fastest accelerating motorsport in the world.
However, we will focus on scale cars because the tracks we currently use are not suitable for wingcars.
Scale cars are similar to GT or WTCC cars. They usually weigh 50-120 grams and have a maximum length of 200mm and a width of 83mm. In Finland, the technical regulations for race cars are defined in the AKK rules, to which the sport officially belongs. The Finnish AKK pages can be read here.
In Finland, a cup-type race called the Euroseries is run, with 4 races all over Finland. In addition, there are regional races where the rules are a little looser to make it easier for new enthusiasts to join the sport.
There are scale cars on two scales, the more common of which is 1/24. Less seen in Finland, but in the world the scale is equally common is 1/32. The Eurosport class is run on both scales and in addition the F1 class is run on a 1/32 scale.
Internationally, the annual World Championships are held according to ISRA rules. Finland has made great efforts to comply with the so-called ISRA rules, although there are exceptions to them, especially in the Production category. However, some of the classes are run only in Finland, so in this respect some of the rules are completely national. You can read more about ISRA here.

As a general rule, Slot Racing is cheap as a sport. By now, the cost will start to rise, but once the equipment is acquired, it will be cheap to maintain itself. In competitions, the highest costs are Travel and overnight.
Cost level of cars
We have tried to bring together the price level of the different car categories in one picture. The picture shows the price scale by category up to the finished race-tuned car. In the picture, the category is placed in a blue line based on the actual cost of the race-ready car if you start from scratch.
As you can see from the picture, Euromini and RTR cars are the cheapest. In the Eurolight and DTM classes, the Koford engine, especially in the Eurolight class race car, raises the price.
The cheap starting price for the Production class is explained by the fact that the class can also be driven with a Euromini class engine (Hawk 7).
The X12 engine used in the OG class is more expensive in its starting price and the price of the engine, together with a much more expensive steel frame, raises the starting level of prices to a much higher level.
The ES and F1 categories are largely made to order and prices will rise significantly higher due to the engine alone.
Skill level of drivers
In addition, we have brought together the car categories and the skill level required of drivers to take full advantage of the car in the same way in one picture on the red line.
Euromini and RTR cars are definitely easier to drive. The cars have moderate acceleration and run "smoothly" on the track.
The DTM class car is also easier to drive as it is built with moderate driving experience in mind as far as the gears are concerned. In the Eurolight class car, the Koford engine is already much faster and it is much more difficult to drive than the DTM car.
The Production class is a benchmark for all other classes and a well-built Production class car is also easy to drive, but the driver must already be at an advanced level.
The OG-12 class car is already significantly lighter and uses the best X12 class machines that are fast when well tuned. In this class, the driver’s driving skills are weighed at the latest before becoming a Pro class driver.
ES and F1 class cars are driven by driver's drivers. In these classes, you can only see drivers who usually have years of experience and the cars in the class are so fast that the car does not stay in the possession of the novice driver.
There is no separate steering wheel or pedals for the cars, but they are guided in the groove with a separate handle by adjusting the speed. The actual speed control is done by pressing a separate trigger, which regulates the voltage going to the car.
The handles are multi-brand as well as multi-level and are usually procured according to your own preferences. Of course, the categories that run are also a bit affected. The prices of the handles start at around 100 euros and can cost up to more than 1000 euros. Better than the basic handles, you can adjust the car's braking, acceleration and many other things.
